Joint Venture to Manufacture PVC Water Pipe in China

Sekisui Chemical Company, a Japanese PVC pipe manufacturer have established a joint venture with China’s Metallic Qingdao Building Systems. Together they will produce and market PVC water pipes. Demand for these products has been buoyed by the fact that Beijing will be hosting the Olympic games in 2008.

The joint venture to be owned 75% by Metallic Qingdao and 25% by Sekisui, will be known as Sekisui Qingdao Plastic Co Ltd. The plant is expected to cost about $6million and have an output of approximately 5400mt per annum and they hope to be producing pipe by March 2003.

The joint venture partners have projected sales of 700million Yen for the fiscal year immediately following the plant coming on line and expect to more than double this the following year.
