Seiko Epson and Cambridge Display Technology Form Joint Venture

After several years of joint development, Seiko Epson and Cambridge Display Technology (CDT) have agreed to form a joint venture company, Polyink, offering technology and services using ink-jet deposition for manufacturing light emitting polymer (LEP) displays.

Epson have worked on developing the ink jet printing technology, while CDT worked on the ink formulations. Joint work has resulted in commercialisation of ink jet printing machines utilising the results of their work.

The LEP’s can be easily be deposited in arrays to form red, green and blue pixels via ink jet printing processes. The technology developed by Epson and CDT is directly suited to this application and will potentially lead to efficient devices produced at low cost and at high production rates.
