Posco Commence Construction of Another Continuous Galvanising Line

On September 6th, 2004, POSCO commenced the construction of another Continuous Galvanizing Line. This line is specially designed for Surface Treatment Steel Sheet for automobiles.

Scheduled to be complete in May 2006, POSCO will invest 190 billion won (165.8 million USD) in capital. The No. 6 CGL will mainly produce automobile exterior plates that are superior in refinement, intensity, and workability.

This investment will reflect the recent world trend of steel sheet pattern usage in the automobile industry. Demand has changed from Cold Rolled Steel and Electrical Steel Sheet to Galvanized Steel Sheet to meet customers’ demands.

This CGL project is another shining example of POSCO’s vision - growth and through innovation. This follows projects such as construction of Finex 1st phase and future growth of Silicon Still Mills and Coke Plants. These are proactive developments of high quality steelmaking to defeat the Chinese steel industry.

POSCO has the capacity to produce total 1.2 million tons of the Plating Steel Sheet in Gwangyang Works. POSCO has been recognized for specialized automobile steel sheets and operates four CGLs.

POSCO is anticipating a highly stabilized supply of the Plating Steel Sheets used in automobiles to enhance competition. It is planning to produce over 1.6 million tons of the steel sheet which account for 70% of autmobile steel production.

Approximately 80 people attended the ground-breaking ceremony. Members included: Employees, head manager Junyang Jung from Gwanyang Works, Jinjeon Kim (Vice President of POSCO Engineering and Construction) Dook Lee (Senior Vice-Presdient of POSCON), equipment providers and construction supervisors.
