LG Chem to Build Engineering Plastics Facility in China

Korea’s largest chemical company, LG Chem today announced plans to establish an Engineering Plastics Compound (EPC) facility in China. The plant is expected to require an investment of US$11.67 million this year.

The plant will be located in the Guang’dong province of China (Hua’nan district) and will consist of a 80,000m2 facility. When the plant comes on stream in 2003, it will be able to produce 20,000 tonnes of EPC, with capacity rising to 50,000 tonnes by 2010.

LG Chem also plan to build a second plant in China by 2010, giving them a total capacity of 100,000 tonnes per year. The expansion into the Chinese region has been stimulated by the fact that China is the largest importer of engineering plastics and has the fastest growing demand for these products in the world.
