Hydro Aluminium to Deliver First Engine Blocks and Cylinder Heads from Gyor Plant in Hungary

Hydro will deliver 110,000 aluminium cylinder heads and an equal number of engine blocks to the Chinese company Brilliance Automotive. The Hydro Aluminium foundry in Gyor, Hungary, started its first shipment ever to China yesterday.

The contract lifetime is three years, with deliveries to the Brilliance site in Shenyang. The parts will be used in the assembly of the first Chinese-made mid-size cars.

"This contract with Brilliance is a milestone for our location and for Hydro," says Ferenc Havasi, managing director of Hydro Aluminum Györ.

Hydro is a leading supplier to the automotive industry with alloys, semi-manufactured products, precision tubing, structural parts - in particular for crash management - and engine castings.

Hydro Aluminium Gyõr, a wholly owned Hydro subsidiary, has been manufacturing aluminium engine castings since the summer of 1997. The plant has production capacity of around one million units per year and currently supplies components to GM/Opel, Audi, BMW and Renault. Hydro in Gyõr has a workforce of 500.
