Chemopetrol Takes Control of New Polyethylene Production Unit

Czech plastics manufacturer Chemopetrol have taken control over their new high density polyethylene production unit from the constructors Linde-KCA-Dresden. The handover has come after the unit completed initial testing consistent with the Provisional Acceptance Certificate.

The unit started production at the end of May and successfully completed guaranteed tests and has produced 14,000 tons of polyethylene up to July 7.

Linde-won the contract to construct the production unit in 1999, with licensee Univation. Univation will continue to supervise operations until mid way through August.

The unit was constructed for a cost of $100 million, which was below the budget set out by the company directors. It will have a production capacity of 200,000mt/yr at full capacity, bringing total capacity to 320,000mt/yr. The new unit also has the flexibility to increase production by 25%.
