Environmentally Friendly Fluoroaromatics Process from DuPont

Two senior scientists at DuPont have unveiled an environmentally friendly process for converting hydrocarbons to fluorocarbons , generating water as the only by-product.

The process can be used to manufacture fluoroaromatics via copper fluoride. The synthesis route uses principles of inorganic chemistry to produce fluorinated aromatics in an environmentally friendly manner. The process is also economically viable and capable of being used on a commercial scale.

These finding represent another DuPont initiative to finding production processes that are more environmentally friendly.

The details of the findings of Subramanian and Manzer will be published in the September 6, edition of Science magazine.
