BioAmber, a renewable chemistry company, enters an exclusive technology licensing deal with CELEXION to produce adipic acid, as well as other chemical intermediates.
The renewable chemistry firm employs the same purification processes used for succinic acid to adipic acid production. The new agreement with CELEXION will support BioAmber to increase its infrastructure, expertise, customer base and collaborations. This in turn will speed up the production of renewable chemicals such as biobased adipic acid. The company has also set up a R&D facility in Plymouth, Minnesota for supporting its biobased adipic acid development program. The facility has been established with efficiencies in fermentation, analytical chemistry and molecular biology.
BioAmber’s CEO, Jean-Francois Huc says that the partnership with CELEXION is ideal for commercialization of biobased succinic acid. CELEXION's technology integrated with BioAmber’s novel purification process and capabilities lead to the development of renewable chemical, adipic acid. The current worth of adipic acid market is around $8 billion and the demand is nearly 3 million tons per year.
