Yantai Wanhua Polyurethanes, manufacturer of polyurethanes in China, and Huntsman, a global manufacturer and distributor of differentiated chemicals, have entered a licensing deal to produce Methyl Tertiary Butyl Ether (MTBE) and Propylene Oxide (PO).
Under the terms of the licensing agreement, Yantai Wanhua will construct a PO/ MTBE manufacturing plant in Yantai, Shandong province. Construction is expected to start in late 2011 and production will start in late 2013.
The Polyurethanes business segment of Huntsman owns world-class manufacturing facilities in China, the Netherlands and the U.S. The company has a 240/750 ktpa PO/ MTBE production facility in Port Neches, Texas.
Huntsman will join with Yantai Wanhua Polyurethanes to build the PO/ MTBE plant. The partnership will help Yantai Wanhua Polyurethanes to achieve its objective to become a leading green chemical producer.
Yantai Wanhua Polyurethanes’ Chairman, Ding Jiansheng stated that the company’s local expertise and great chemical market potential in China will advance the success of integrated chemical complex at Wanhua Yantai portside.
