WACKER Starts Up New Silicone-Polymer Production Lines in Burghausen

A chemical group, WACKER announced that it has begun operating several new production lines for high-purity specialty silicones, UV-activated silicones and encapsulation and coating compounds at its manufacturing site in Burghausen, Germany.

The products have potential applications in electronics, LED and medical industries. A new cleanroom facility is built at the Burghausen site to ensure the purity and quality requirements of silicones and encapsulants.

The new cleanroom meets the company’s Clean Operations principles and sets standards for high-purity silicone production. Logistics, filling and production are integrated separately at the site. Each manufacturing step is consistently monitored and recorded to make sure that high-quality products are delivered from the plant.

The expanded cleanroom facility manufactures ELASTOSIL and SILPURAN silicone elastomers for medical uses. In addition, it produces WACKER SilGel, SEMICOSIL and LUMISIL specialty silicones to coat and encapsulate electronic parts. WACKER’s new silicone-polymer production lines and cleanroom facility allow the company to meet the growing demand for specialized materials in individual industrial markets.
