Active DoD Harbours Treated with AquaGate+PAC for Remediation of Contaminated Sediments

AquaBlok has developed AquaGate+PAC for contaminated sediment treatment. This method of remediation of contaminated sediments is superior to conventional capping and dredging methods that cause harm to the ecosystems and are much less in cost. The AquaGate+PAC consists of activated carbon (AC) which removes the contaminants by bonding with them.

Overview of Sediment remediation system

The newly developed capping material will be first deployed at the U.S Naval Shipyard for testing its effectiveness in reducing the contaminants in the harbour sediments. The capping material in the AquaGate+PAC will be effective over a large area in the active harbour area and is capable of bonding with contaminants that are deep inside the sea. The use of this system aids the ecosystem in neutralising the contaminants.

The AquaGate+PAC is a combination of AC and the composite delivery system from AquaBlok, which targets and bonds with the contaminants present in the sediments. These contaminants harm the eco-systems within the sea and also to human health. The ability of activated carbon to remove the contaminants by bonding with them has been proven in many studies. The AquaGate+PAC effectively forms a thin or capping bioactive layer with the sediment and reduce the contaminants present at pore level. The benefits offered by the AquaGate+PAC system is enhanced remediation of contaminants, reduction in costs and energy saving.
