Woodbridge Group Develops StrataTRIM Composite Board Technology for Automotive Applications

A polyurethane-based composite board technology, developed by the Woodbridge Group, StrataTRIM is a lightweight and cost effective acoustical solution intended for deck lids, sun shades, load floors, seat backs, package trays, airbag passage covers, cargo panels and other applications which require dimensional stability and high strength.

The Executive Director of Sales, Domenic Sinopoli stated that the polyurethane innovation, StrataTRIM sets a new standard in the industry for product performance and material properties. The composite boards used in the manufacturing process are compatible with traditional forming processes and utilizes StrataFORM flow forming technology. The state-of-the-art forming technology optimizes performance and material use by minimizing compression forces, resulting in the development of several interior rim products that are an alternative to rigid plastic material.

Sinopoli also explained that the advanced technology features decorative, in-mold trim for carpeting and knit-fabric fastening capability capable of supporting conventional hinges and attachments,

The advantages of using StrataTRIM include superior design flexibility, total cost saving of the system, improved surface quality, better acoustics, glass-free reinforcement possibilities, mass reduction of up to 50%, reduced tool lead time, rapid prototyping and cost effective production.

StrataTRIM products are available in North America and China through Wuxi Jixing Auto Parts, the joint venture partner.

The Woodbridge Group, with their automotive headquarters located in Troy, Michigan, develops polyurethane products in collaboration with its partners for automotive applications. Woodbridge also provides value added services including design and engineering, contract assembly, sequencing and supply chain management in 19 countries including India, China, Australia, Argentina, Thailand and Europe.
