Solutia’s LLumar Window Film Meets DOT’s Safety Regulations

LLumar AIR80, a window film developed by Solutia, meets the safety regulations of the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration of United States Department of Transportation (DOT) associated with window visibility in commercial trucks.

Commercial trucks can now use selected UV films on the vehicles’ side windows for increased protection from harmful rays, which have high risk of skin cancer.

With the use of advanced technology, Solutia’s film offers enhanced protection against UV rays and also maintains the vehicles considerably cooler. Several tests have shown that application of LLumar AIR80 can maintain the temperature of a vehicle's interior surfaces at 29°F cooler than a vehicle without any protective solution. Thus, the decrease in temperature increases cabin comfort and minimizes the load on air conditioners. The LLumar AIR80 ceramic coating technology assures that there is no disturbance with electronic signals from electronic toll sensors, cellular telephones, GPS devices and radios.

The Director of global automotive segment at Solutia's Performance Films division, Mark Gershenson, remarked that when compared to other window films that employ dark-colored tints to reach similar levels of heat rejection, Solutia's LLumar AIR80 film is lighter to meet the safety regulations of DOT. The LLumar series window films are installed at over 1,000 FormulaOne and LLumar dealers across the U.S. The materials are produced in the U.S. and are distributed with a warranty against crackling, peeling or bubbling.
