Intertape Polymer Group, the North American based supplier of carton sealing tape solutions, has launched a new carton sealing tape made particularly for carton boxes made of highly recycled corrugate.
The tape has been manufactured by employing the company’s proprietary adhesive technology, Corru-Grip and is an upgrade to their 1100 premium hot melt tape for cartons. The Corru-Grip adhesive technology facilitates the sealing of cartons under conditions of varied levels of humidity and temperature which is difficult with conventional hot melt carton sealing tapes.
Cathy Foley from the American Forest & Paper Association stated that the average percent of recycled content used in the making of corrugated boxes exceeds 40% with greater than 90% of corrugated boxes being reclaimed for recycling. The surface structure of recycled cartons comprises a different chemical composition owing to the fibers being shorter and flatter. Hence sealing boxes composed of higher percentage of recycled content is fraught with challenges. The new carton sealing solution from Intertape Polymer Group addresses these challenges.
According to Mary Jo Burgess, Director of Product Management, the company plans to extend the application of the Corru-Grip technology to other products in their carton sealing tape portfolio.
