SPRINT® Carbon Fibre Composite on TVR Sportscar

TVR now employ SP Systems SPRINT® Carbon Fibre Composite material as the body panels for their Tuscan R sportscar

With a mass of less than 1000kg, the Tuscan R is reported to have excellent track behaviour and reinforced its performance characteristics with an overall 3rd place in the recent British GTO Championship.

TVR decided to use SP's Sprint CBS material for its excellent stiffness to weight ratio.

The final construction used 1 ply of SF95 laid up and followed by 1 ply of SPRINT® CBS (300g carbon skins with a 1.0 mm syntactic core). This provides a body panel thickness of 1.9 mm with only two plies of product.

The sandable film also ensures easy painting and leads to a class A surface without any porosity.

According to TVR, compared to making the panels out of conventional pre-preg, this material has provided a cost saving of over 60%.
