Martin Marietta Complete Fibre Reinforced Plastic Bridge Deck in Oregon

Martin Marietta Composites is completing a bridge deck installation on the Siuslaw Bridge in Florence, Oregon. The DuraSpan fiber-reinforced polymer (FRP) bridge deck was chosen for this project because it provides a lightweight, solid-surface deck that can be rapidly installed.

The Siuslaw Bridge was originally opened in 1936 bringing the scenic US 101 Highway into the town of Florence. This bridge is reported to carry 20,000 vehicles per day. Its double-leaf bascule spans can be opened to allow large ships to pass through.

The Siuslaw Bridge installation marks the thirtieth installation of a Martin Marietta Composites bridge deck in the United States and abroad. Other installations of composite decks include California, Idaho, Iowa, Illinois, Maryland, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Oregon, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Washington and West Virginia.
