VTT Receives IDTechEx Best Technical Development Manufacturing Award

VTT achieved recognition at the IDTechEx Printed Electronics USA 2012 Awards for its development of a pilot facility for large surface area component assembly and plastic-integrated electronics. VTT was declared winner of the Best Technical Development Manufacturing Award. The IDTechEx Printed Electronics USA competition recognises outstanding innovation, development and commercialisation in the printed electronics industry.

The new pilot production line complements the earlier printed electronics printing machine environment and enables the manufacture of flexible or freely formable plastic-integrated electronic products. Automated production enables effective implementation from prototypes all the way to proof-of-production piloting. The areas where we are seeking new product concepts based on printed electronics, roll-to-roll assembly and plastic integration include consumer electronics, the automotive industry, and health and well-being.

The competition's panel of judges was made up of independent specialists from the sector. Winners each received a unique prize – the world's first e-paper certificate, supplied by E-ink.

The expertise of VTT and the PrintoCent community in developing printed electronics was earlier recognised at the IDTechEx Printed Electronics Europe 2012 Awards in April 2012, when the Best Technical Development Manufacturing Award went to the printed electronics pilot facility, based on VTT expertise and constructed in VTT premises.
