Ashland Introduces New Mobile Laboratory for the Foundry Industry

A new mobile laboratory, Express Lab, featuring specific capabilities for the foundry industry, is being introduced by Ashland Casting Solutions, a business group of Ashland Specialty Chemical, a division of Ashland Inc.. Express Lab features on-site capabilities to measure the physical attributes of sand systems and the performance capabilities of resin systems used in metal castings. This service provides foundry operators with real-time results to help improve process control and reduce scrap.

“By introducing Express Lab to the castings industry, we can deliver the highest level of expertise possible to foundry locations throughout North America. Express Lab packages distinct capabilities into applications aimed at improving bottom-line performance that can be delivered to the foundry on site,” said Mike Swartzlander, vice president, Ashland Specialty Chemical, and general manager, Ashland Casting Solutions.

Some of Express Lab’s featured capabilities include structured testing that is applied to core sand analysis, molding sand analysis and casting performance evaluation. Express Lab can also be used to provide on-site instruction from ISO 9002 certified trainers so employees can receive expert hands-on experience and learn the latest in quality control procedures.
