NGK Develops High-Speed and Low Drive Voltage Optical Modulator

NGK has developed an X-cut thin LiNbO3 sheet optical modulator with the world's lowest drive voltage of 2V at 40Gb/s operation by precise lapping and polishing techniques. It can be applied to millimeter wave generation using its high-speed and low-drive-voltage characteristics.

It can be applied not only to high-speed optical communication systems but also to microwave or millimeter wave communication such as Radio Over Fiber (ROF) communication, vehicle-to-infrastructure communication or millimeter wave sensors.
