Major British Award for Aluminium Architecture

ALUMINIUM CURTAIN WALLING: Technal has recently launched the MX curtain walling suite - the first in the UK to offer such a wide range of design options.

A Belfast health center using architectural aluminium glazing systems from Hydro Building Systems' brand Technal has won a major award for architecture.

During London's "Architecture Week," the £15 million community health and social services center in Belfast, called The Arches, was presented the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA) Award. The design features the innovative use of Technal's systems, including around 100 windows in different color combinations, frame and span sizes.

Commenting on The Arches project, the judges said a skilled design team had redefined the healthcare buildings.

"This unique scheme will be much visited as a guide for the future, not to be copied, but as an inspiration on how to create architecture by continually pushing boundaries and challenging preconceptions," the jury concluded.

"The building has a lively design theme and the colorful windows and curtain walling were central to that," says Bob Welsh, general manager of Hydro Building Systems, which supplies the Technal brand.

"The systems were capable of achieving the architect's requirements for aesthetics and large spans to allow a high level of light deep into each room, with all the low maintenance benefits of aluminium," he points out.

Hydro Building Systems is one of Europe's market leaders in the design, manufacture and distribution of high performance aluminium glazing solutions. Its Technal brand of glazing systems comprises a fully integrated range of aluminium curtain walling, door, window and ground floor framing products.
