Structured Materials Wins Contract to Develop Anti-Tamper Device

Structured Materials Industries, Inc. (SMI) has been awarded a Phase I SBIR by the ARMY to develop a self-powered Anti-Tamper device. SMI will carry out this work with a major defense contractor and will demonstrate the technology in fieldable devices. The technology is based on the well known release of controllable amounts of heat in thin films comprised of metal/metal-oxide multilayers. SMI will first demonstrate the technology in memory devices.

A wide range of applications can be envisioned for the proposed Anti-Tamper device technique for military and civilian hardware security. The military is highly interested in this technology that can be applied to a variety of electronic systems. In addition, this technology can be incorporated in consumer data storage hardware to safeguard personal and financial data.
