Tata Steel to Supply Proton

Indian Steel Maker Tata Steel has made further inroads into the automotive industry, securing an order to supply 5% of Proton’s requirements, with supply to commence in this quarter.

Proton’s requirements equate to the supply of 3000 tonnes of cold rolled coil in the first year. The steel will be destined for internal components. They also expect this requirement to rise to 15% in the coming years.

The Proton order adds to their current supply deal with Ford India. They are also in discussions with Ford to supply other Ford operations, while at the same time they are hoping to use the Proton deal as a spring board into the Chinese auto industry.
