Wireless Monitoring Technology for Cold Chain Distribution

With the installation of intelligent wireless temperature monitoring technology for its cold chain distribution, Malaysia-based Cold Chain Network has enhanced its assurance of optimal storage conditions.

Hanwell Solutions was chosen by Cold Chain Network through its Malaysian distributor Cynotex to specifically develop and implement a cold chain distribution specific wireless temperature monitoring solution for its recently-established storage facility in the Selangor state, near Kuala Lumpur. Cynotex brings cold chain distribution solutions to the Asian market.

CCN provides temperature-controlled storage and transport services. It occupies a 200,000 sq ft warehouse which accommodates several specialist cold rooms for frozen and chilled goods.

IceSpy Monitoring System

Earlier, electronic data loggers and manually logging temperature from local areas were being used by CCN. However, an automated wireless system had to be changed owing to business expansion. To ensure the integrity of stored products and ease audit stress with user-friendly software with historical data, specific requirements included an online real-time and wireless temperature monitoring system with immediate alarm notification of events.

A custom-made IceSpy monitoring system comprising of 24 units was suggested to be fitted within 18 rooms to track the temperature of stored ice cream and thus ensure continuous safe storage.

The technology allows CCN to efficiently monitor temperatures in real-time all through the cold chain distribution process, which means personnel no longer have to perform regular manual checks. When temperatures exceed predetermined limits, alarm notifications integrated in the system can be triggered in any incidence, so that effective and rapid remedial action can be taken.

In addition, the system collects data over a longer time which is then transferred to a local PC for analysis of key trends and can be viewed online through WebView.

Conclusion

Maintaining integrity through each critical control point from warehouse to transportation and retail, CCN provides an uninterrupted cold chain distribution system. The company has served the Singaporean and Malaysian cold chain industry for nearly a decade, and as such has developed a reputation for best-in-class innovation and services, all aimed at ensuring the safety and freshness of goods.

With complete ISO certification, CCN was the first cold chain logistics provider to get the MS 2400:2010 Halalan Toyibban (HT) standard, which upholds the integrity of Halal goods. The addition of the IceSpy system has fulfilled its immediate and long-term monitoring requirements, reiterating its reputation for delivering high quality produce.

Ensuring temperature integrity is a critical part of the service we deliver to our customers and enhances their confidence. We now have a state-of-the-art monitoring system that gives us better control over the integrity of temperatures. It will bring us closer to our aim of being best-in-class for temperature-controlled warehousing.
