Introduction
Super alloys are known to possess excellent resistance to creep, good surface stability, and good corrosion and oxidation resistance. They were initially developed to provide high performance at very high temperatures. These properties have made these alloys highly sought after by the aircraft, automobile, medical, and defense sectors.
Super alloy Ametek 942 is a controlled expansion alloy containing mainly iron and nickel. The following sections will discuss in detail about super alloy Ametek 942.

Other Designations
Equivalent materials to Ametek 942 are tabulated below:
Fabrication and Heat Treatment
Machinability
Ametek 942 can be machined using all the traditional processes.
Forming
Ametek 942 is ductile and hence is readily formable.
Forging
Forging can be performed at 1204°C (2200°F). Long soaking time in a furnace atmosphere can cause contamination from sulfur. Care should be taken to avoid this.
Welding
Welding of Ametek 942 can be performed using all the traditional welding methods.
Annealing
Annealing can be performed at 790°C (1450°F), followed by air cooling.
Cold Working
Ametek 942 can be easily cold worked as the material is ductile.
Applications
Ametek 942 is chiefly used in glass-to-metal sealing of components in a glass envelope, such as electron tubes and lamps.
