Introduction

Nicrofer 6023 alloy is a nickel-chromium-iron alloy with excellent resistance to corrosion and oxidation at elevated temperatures. The alloy is precipitation-hardenable, and exhibits good mechanical properties at high temperatures.

Fabrication and Heat Treatment

Machinability

Conventional machining techniques that are used for machining iron-based alloys can be used.

Forming

Nicrofer 6023 alloy has excellent ductility, and can be readily formed by all conventional techniques.

Welding

The alloy can be welded using commonly used welding techniques such as gas-tungsten arc welding, shielded metal-arc welding, gas metal-arc welding and submerged-arc welding.

Forging

The alloy can be forged in the temperature range of 1038 to 1232°C (1900 to 2250°F).

Hot Working

Hot working of nicrofer 6023 alloy can be performed in the temperature range of 871 to 1232°C (1600 to 2250°F).

Cold working

Cold working may be performed using standard tooling.

Annealing

The alloy can be annealed at 1149°C (2100°F) and then rapidly cooled to avoid thermal cracking.
