BASF, Markor to Establish Chinese JV for Butanediol and Polytetrahydrofuran Production

BASF and Xinjiang Markor Chemical Industry Co., Ltd. (Markor) have signed key cooperation contracts for the establishment of joint ventures for the production of butanediol (BDO) and polytetrahydrofuran (PolyTHF®, chemical name: polytetramethylene ether glycol). The joint venture companies will be established once the relevant Chinese regulatory approvals are obtained.

TRUMPF’s New Integrated Flattening Concept Facilitates Undistorted Thin Sheet Metal Punching

Punching a large number of holes in thin sheet metal, without distorting the panel, and that in a single pass - that is now possible thanks to the new integrated flattening concept by TRUMPF. In the standard punching process, the punch draws material into the hole as it penetrates the sheet. That makes for compressive stress then, and tensile stress when the punch is withdrawn.

SABIC to Host National Chemistry Olympiad 2013

The National Chemistry Olympiad is an annual competition for talented students in higher education. The aim is to raise the profile of chemistry in secondary schools and to foster young talent. The finals of the 34th Olympiad will take place from June 5th to June 12th 2013. SABIC, one of the world leaders in the chemicals sector, will host the event from its European Headquarters in Limburg, in the south of the Netherlands.

UMass Amherst Chemical Engineer Earns DuPont Young Professor Grant

A University of Massachusetts Amherst chemical engineer, Paul Dauenhauer, is one of only 14 scientists worldwide to receive recognition for scientific innovation from the 2013 DuPont Young Professors Program, the company recently announced. He will receive $75,000 over three years to advance progress on his discovery of a process for making renewable plastics and chemicals from biomass.
