Cabot to Provide DARCO Hg Family of Activated Carbon Products to Large U.S. Electric Utility

Cabot Corporation announced that it has entered into a contract to provide its DARCO® Hg family of activated carbon products to a large Midwestern power generator in the U.S. While Cabot currently supplies activated carbon to many utilities for compliance with certain state-based regulations, this is believed to be the first contract awarded in the market for compliance with the federal Mercury and Air Toxics Standard (MATS) as the industry prepares for this regulation to take effect in April 2015. The contract is valued at up to $8 million and will allow the utility to meet stringent federal regulations for mercury emissions.

CSC Honors INRS Director with 2014 Award for Research Excellence in Materials Chemistry

The Canadian Society for Chemistry (CSC) has bestowed its 2014 Award for Research Excellence in Materials Chemistry on Professor Federico Rosei, director of the INRS Énergie Matériaux Télécommunications research centre, in recognition of his exceptional contributions to the field. Professor Rosei will be honoured at the society's annual conference, which will take place June 1 to 5, 2014, in Vancouver.

The Admixture Systems business of BASF’s Construction Chemicals division today announces the launch of a third-party critically reviewed Environmental Product Declaration (EPD) Manager tool for concrete. This tool enables BASF to create customer specific EPDs for concrete to help communicate the environmental performance of their mixtures.

Momentive Specialty Chemicals Acquires Shreveport Manufacturing Facility from CRS Proppants

Momentive Specialty Chemicals Inc. (“Momentive Specialty Chemicals” or the “Company”) today announced that it has completed the acquisition of a resin coated proppants manufacturing facility located in Shreveport, Louisiana from CRS Proppants LLC. The Shreveport facility has annual capacity of approximately 450 million pounds and will continue to source Northern White frac sand from CRS Proppants LLC going forward.
