Kansai and PPG Look to Form Automotive Coatings Alliance

US-based coatings and glass maker, PPG Industries and Japanese paint manufacturer, Kansai Paint announced that they are looking to form an alliance, after signing a non-binding memorandum of understanding.

The alliance is being set up to respond quickly to the demands of automotive original equipment manufacturers (OEM), in particular Japanese automotive manufacturers that had set up operations overseas. It also comes after Kansai’s alliance with DuPont ended at the end of last year.

The agreement would see them set up sales and marketing operations initially in North America and Europe for Japanese auto makers. Then they would move on to Shanghai and other Asian countries so they can service all of the regions automotive original equipment manufacturers.
