World's Leading Scientific Publisher Makes Significant Acquisition

Elsevier, the world's leading publisher of scientific, technical and medical information products and services, announced today the acquisition of the publishing assets of William Andrew, Inc. ("William Andrew").

Over the last 18 months, Elsevier and William Andrew have built a valuable strategic alliance including print distribution of William Andrew books globally outside of North America and electronic distribution of William Andrew content on Elsevier's globally renowned electronic publishing platforms: Science Direct and Engineering Village.

"Purchasing the content assets of William Andrew now is the logical next step in our relationship," commented Jim Donohue, Managing Director, Science & Technology Books. "This acquisition adds to our portfolio the strength and depth of William Andrew's data and reference content. We look forward to accelerating the growth of the William Andrew list both online and in print as part of our overall strategic goal of providing engineers and applied scientists with the critical information, intelligence and tools they need to do their jobs."

Bill Woishnis, founder of William Andrew, added, "In aligning ourselves with Elsevier, the William Andrew content will reach a much larger audience in the future and be associated with the leader in scientific publishing."

Since its founding in 1990, William Andrew has built a strong and enduring reputation as a leading specialist book and database publisher in a number of fields including plastics & rubbers, adhesives & sealants, coatings, paints & ink, cosmetics, pharmaceuticals, materials, formulations, industrial chemicals, safety, health & hygiene, semiconductors, microelectronics, nanotechnology, energy and animal science. The company began with the creation of Plastics Design Library, providing unique databooks to the plastics industry, including the flagship title Chemical Resistance, now in its fourth edition.

Some of the forthcoming titles from William Andrew and Elsevier include Nanotechnology Applications for Clean Water, Skin Aging Handbook, Handbook of Plastics Joining 2E, Tigers of the World 2E, Engineering Documentation Control 3E and Human Toxicology of Chemical Mixtures.
