US based SDCMaterials, which specialises in developing high performance catalysts, has announced that it has begun the field testing of its emission control catalyst product named Nano-Nano-Micron (NNm).
For the final phase of the testing process, the company’s NNm product will be installed as the catalyst ingredient in an exhaust system that is used in government transport buses. SDCMaterials has collaborated with a prominent Exhaust Gas Aftertreatment and Systems company based in Europe for this project.
The company manufactures catalysts through a proprietary process to create a Platinum Group Metal (PGM) structure at a nano-scale in order to increase the performance of the metal used in the exhaust system. The components used in the exhaust system convert CO and HC into CO2 and water based on the PGM.
According to the CEO of SDCMaterials, Maximilian Biberger various synthetic vehicle drive cycle tests and gas tests have been carried out to prove the benefits of the NNm catalyst in terms of performance and cost. For these tests, different OEMs were used in various heavy and light duty applications. He also added that the company’s customer who is a supplier of catalytic component and integrator of systems will be able to decrease the amount of PGM required to control emissions.
