The Surlyn packaging material from Dupont will be exhibited at Luxe Pack 2012 in Monaco. Just as looking through a kaleidoscope offers unique views every time it is seen through, DuPont Packaging & Industrial Polymers will showcase its polymer for sophisticated cosmetic packaging solutions showing a range of options offered by the materials to its designers.
The CEO of an Italian company, Lucchese Design, Franscesco Lucchese, having extensive experience in working with a range of materials stated that he used the kaleidoscope concept to explain the material since it has endless potential osf colored or transparent textures and shapes.
The cream jar of the ‘Sulhwasoo Dahamsul” product line of AmorePacific, a Korean cosmetic producer demonstrates the exclusive kaleidoscopic visual appeal of Surlyn. The special printing effect is obtained by printing on an inner nylon cup covered by Surlyn using injection molding. The gap between the outside packaging and the inner cup is removed by the injection molding process, light refraction that may reduce the inner appearance is eliminated and the premium cream jar is given a jewel-like shining appearance. The soft, pleasant touch and the high transparency offered by Surlyn improve the luxury of the product further. The Excellence in Innovation Silver Award at the DuPont Packaging Awards 2012 was awarded for this application.
Surlyn 3D – the D’s depicting Decoration, Design and Depth, includes a single or multilayer inner polymer container over molded by transparent, glass-like Surlyn resins.
Its key benefit is the high design freedom rendered by the creation of outer and inner containers in a range of shapes with a number of visual effects from colored translucence, crystal transparency to frosted effects. This innovative production process with the help of Surlyn polymer allows economic and simple decoration of both the outer and inner containers’ surfaces that remain protected without any need for varnish or additional coatings.
The product enables molding fragrance cups of complicated shapes and closures showing a very good chemical resistance against ingredients of perfume. Also bottles, cream jars and bottle casings can be molded in Surlyn.
