DuPont Surlyn 3Dtechnology Utilized in Kanebo’s New RMK Firming Essence Packaging

The new RMK firming essence from Kanebo, an Asian brand for high-end cosmetic goods, steps out to the market in an elegant flacon having an inner shape made of HDPE overmolded by DuPont™ Surlyn® by using the DuPont Surlyn® 3Dtechnology. The technology Surlyn® 3D – the D’s stand for Design, Decoration and Depth – was chosen to give the flacon a thick wall, high-glossy luxurious appearance with a sensitive haptic.

Beside the premium image of the prestige product Surlyn® 3D offers uniquely the chance to combine 2 shapes into an innovative container by preforming, decorating and over-molding it. The branding decoration is applied on the inner shape and therefore sublimated and protected by the outer layer against scratches or other influences from outside, which is one of the advantages of the patented DuPont technology

“Surlyn® in the outer layer offers a high scratch-resistance and is unbreakable which helps to protect the product in a to-go environment like a lady’s handbag.” explains Peter Lamboy, Director – Packaging Development of KAO Europe Research Laboratories, Darmstadt (Germany), who was supporting the development of this application. “Beside this the technology offers versatile decoration possibilities and an option for a cost efficient development of flankers for future line extensions.”

Drawing from an extensive mix of adhesives, sealants, modifiers; barrier and peelable-lidding resins, DuPont Packaging & Industrial Polymers works with customers around the world on packaging initiatives that help protect the product, environment, improve shelf appeal, convenience and reduce cost in the food, cosmetics, medical products and other consumer goods and industrial packaging industries.
