Exova, the global testing, calibration and advisory services provider, has become one of the first testing companies to achieve UKAS accreditation for the determination of Total Dietary Fibre using the ANKOMTDF Fibre analyser, which automates the standard AOAC 985.29 method currently in use.
Method validation data from Total Dietary Fibre testing has indicated an improvement in method uncertainty and repeatability compared to the traditional bench-based procedure. An increase in the fortification of foods using ingredients such as fructans and polydextrose has created the need to measure different fibre fractions (AOAC 2009.01), and the use of ANKOMTDF enables Exova to meet these requirements and increases capacity to offer a faster turnaround.
Phil Coles, Exova’s director of health sciences, Europe, said: “This is the first of a range of methods which have been updated as part of a programme to expand our nutritional chemistry capabilities. We are testing fibres routinely and this improvement will help us to both advance the method performance and provide results faster.

Exova will begin offering the automated Total Fibre Dietary analysis based on AOAC 985.29 in its Birmingham laboratory in October 2014.
