American Steel Societies Plan to Merge

In an announcement made at ISSTech 2003, the Iron and Steel Society’s annual conference, The Iron and Steel Society (ISS) and the American Institute of Steel Engineers intend to merge as of January 1, 2004.

The merger has been approved by directors of both organisations and will now be put to the members of both societies for final approval.

The merger of the two industry based trade groups is a response to industry consolidation in the North American region. Under the combined guise of the yet to be named organisation, they also feel that they can provide improved support and services to their members in a more cost efficient manner.

Combining the two societies will result in an entity with over 12,000 members and 45 technical committees.
