BASF Buy Exxon’s Polyisobutylene Business

BASF have acquired the Vistanex (TM) LM polyisobutylene business of Exxon Mobil. No details were released regarding the transaction which did not involve any manufacturing sites or personnel.

BASF already manufactures medium and high molecular weight polyisobutylenes which are marketed under the name Oppanol®. They will move Vistanex customers over to Oppanol materials over time.

Oppanol is produced using proprietary technology which can be tailored to produce properties according to customers requirements.

Polyisobutylene is used in adhesives, sealants, lubricants, clear food wraps and chewing gum.
