Bayer Polyol Plant to Get State-of-The-Art Computer Control System to Increase Efficiency

Bayer MaterialScience LLC, the US American subsidiary of Bayer MaterialScience AG, has approved a significant upgrade project at its New Martinsville, West Virginia, integrated polyol and systems production location. The USD 8 million project is intended to provide state-of-the-art computerized control for the entire formulated systems production process from raw material receipt to final product shipment. The project, developed along the principles of Six Sigma, is designed to improve the flexibility of the unit to address the current and future needs of a dynamic marketplace. The project will be implemented in phases, with the full benefit by fourth quarter, 2007.

"This project emphasizes Bayer MaterialScience’s commitment to the integrated site in New Martinsville and to the local production of polyethers," says Peter Vanacker, head of the Polyurethanes Business Unit at Bayer MaterialScience. "We are also significantly improving our efficiency and flexibility with an increased capacity for polyether formulations at this site, which is scheduled to become a major location for specialties in the NAFTA region."
