- ABB to showcase measurement, automation, digitalization, electrification and metallurgical performance technologies in support of leaner, cleaner and more resilient aluminium operations
- Demonstration of high-precision force and dimension measurement technologies designed to help aluminium producers increase yield, improve quality and maximize uptime
- Stressometer®, strip tension measurement and MTG Box Gauge technologies demonstrate the role of accurate measurement in improving rolling performance
At ALUMINIUM 2026, taking place in Düsseldorf, October 6-8, ABB will showcase technologies designed to help aluminium producers improve process control, product quality and production efficiency. Visitors will be able to step inside a cold rolling mill through an immersive virtual reality experience to explore integrated automation, electrification, digital and measurement technologies in action.

The showcase comes as aluminium producers face the dual challenge of meeting growing demand while reducing the environmental impact of production[i]. The increasing shift towards secondary aluminium is creating new opportunities to decarbonize the industry, while maintaining precise process control remains critical.
ABB will highlight AL-EMS electromagnetic stirring technology and its metallurgical expertise across more than 430 furnace installations worldwide. The non-contact technology supports efficient and repeatable furnace operation, with demonstrated benefits including up to 25 percent higher productivity, up to 15 percent less dross generation and up to 10 percent lower energy consumption.
ABB will also demonstrate force and dimension measurement technologies for flatness, strip tension and thickness measurements across rolling operations. Among the technologies on display will be ABB’s Stressometer® Low-Force System, developed for flatness measurement in ultra-thin strip and foil applications. The system enables accurate measurement of very low forces, helping producers maintain precise flatness control while improving process control and yield. Its design combines measurement accuracy and robustness with low total cost of ownership, supporting manufacturers in reducing scrap and re-processing while maintaining production throughput.
ABB will also showcase its proven strip tension measurement technology, designed to provide reliable and accurate measurement in demanding metals applications. Precise tension measurement supports stable rolling processes and consistent strip quality, helping producers maintain process control and uptime. Together with flatness control, it provides critical process information for optimizing rolling performance.
In addition, ABB will demonstrate the Millmate Thickness Gauge (MTG) Box Gauge, developed for precise aluminium thickness measurementin in the final stages of hot rolling, and in cold rolling. Designed for aluminium strip below 8 millimeters, the gauge uses ABB’s pulsed eddy current technology to provide alloy-independent, radiation-free, single-side measurement. “Reliable flatness, tension and thickness measurement and control gives producers the information they need to maintain the right tolerances, reduce waste and improve performance,” said Marko Sydanlammi, Global Portfolio Manager, Force Measurement at ABB’s Measurement & Analytics division. "Combined with ABB’s wider automation, electrification, digitalization and process expertise, this helps producers improve process control and optimize performance from furnace to final product.”
Visitors can meet ABB’s aluminium technology specialists at stand 5C06, Hall 5, at ALUMINIUM 2026, Messe Düsseldorf, Germany, from October 6-8, 2026.
