BASF/Petrobas Delay Acrylic Acid Plant

BASF and Brazilian Petrobas have agreed to delay any plans of a joint venture acrylic acid complex plant until after 2007.

The decision was taken as market demand for the chemical continued to remain below expectation in relation to the project. However, both parties are open to further discussions should any developments take place in the market in the future.

Acrylic acids are used for the production of superabsorbents, which are used in nappies and other hygienic products. Acrylic esters as also derived from acrylic acids and are used in architectural coatings, adhesives and construction raw materials.
