Alcan’s Proposed Take Over of Pechiney Approved by French Government

The French Treasury Department has approved the proposed take over of Pechiney by Alcan.

Approval came after Alcan first filed their intention on July 7th, and their subsequent commitment to continue operating Pechiney sites if the take over was approved, apart from sites that Pechiney already intends to close itself. Additionally, Alcan have agreed that France would be the world headquarters for packaging operations, aerospace, as well as the global headquarters for new cell technology for primary aluminium and the European headquarters for primary aluminium operations for the combined entity.

Alcan’s bid for the take over of Pechiney is still subject to approval by the Pechiney board and shareholders.
