Kuraray to Increase Thermoplastic Elastomer Capacity

Japan’s Kuraray Co are to increase their production capacity of thermoplastic elastomers, in particular hydrogenated styrene elastomers from their Kashima plant.

The capacity increase will see production rise 4,000 tons per year to 23,000, with the additional capacity coming on line in January 2005.

Thermoplastic elastomers are synthetic rubbers with excellent elasticity. They are used for automotive interiors, electrical appliance components and housings, toys, tools and range of other common household items.

Kuraray market their hydrogenated styrene elastomers under the names Septon and Hybar.
