Admet’s Adhesive Lap Joint Shear Strength Test

This video shows Admet’s adhesive lap joint shear strength test similar to ASTM D1002. Shear joints provide uniform stresses across the bond area thus optimizing the strength of joints. The shear strength of adhesives for bonding the metals is usually measured using ASTM D1002.

ASTM D1002 controls the load at a rate of 1,200 to 1,400 psi/minute. A cross head control rate of 0.05 inch/min is considered as an acceptable mode of control and it approximates the rate of loading.

ASTM D1002 is similar to ASTM D3163 which is employed for adhesives that bond rigid plastic substrates. The test is also similar to ASTM D3164 which is for plastic adhesives that can bond both metal and plastic substrates.
