Supplier Continues to Produce Carbon Fiber Materials for New Boeing 787 Dreamliner Despite of Assembly Troubles

Toray Industries Inc. said Thursday that it continues to produce carbon fiber materials as scheduled for Boeing Co.'s (BA) new 787 Dreamliner.

Boeing said Wednesday its first deliveries of the Dreamliner will be delayed by six months because of assembly troubles.

Last year, Toray has signed a 16-year contract worth at least $6 billion to supply carbon fiber materials for use in Dreamliner jetliners.

The deal enables Toray to supply "prepreg," a material combining carbon fiber with epoxy resins, used in the 787's wing, tail units and fuselages. The value of the deal is based on an assumption that Boeing will roll out 1,500 of the 787 jets by 2021.
