Taiwan/Canada Continue Scientific and Technological Collaboration

The completion of a five year scientific collaboration between Taiwan and Canada which involved nanaotechnology, has spawned a new five year agreement. The collaboration between the National Science Council (NSC) of Taiwan and the National Research Council (NTC) of Canada was aimed at the sharing of scientific and technological information through the exchange of prominent researchers and the training if Ph.D students and post doctoral fellows.

Budgets for the 27 ongoing projects stand at NT$4.4million, which is shared evenly between Taiwan and Canada. Focal areas for the upcoming five years will include large scale projects pertaining to nanotechnology and biotechnology. Budgets for these projects would be substantially increased.

In addition to this, the Taiwanese government is intending to inject a further NT$23.1 billion into nanotechnology research over the next six years. It is hoped that this will produce a NT$300billion industry by 2008.
