Fluor Corporation (NYSE:FLR) announced today that it has reached mechanical completion on Renewable Energy Corporation’s (REC) Silicon IV silane gas plant for its Moses Lake Expansion Project in eastern Washington state, about 100 miles southwest of Spokane.
The Silicon IV silane gas plant is currently in a testing and commissioning phase in preparation for production start-up. When completed, the silane processing plant will provide silane gas for the production of high-grade polysilicon for use in solar panel manufacturing.
“REC is very pleased with the teamwork exhibited by Fluor in reaching this safety milestone. Fluor was proactive in working with REC and the contractors in maintaining a Zero Tolerance policy on both of our projects. This is an outstanding achievement and we would like to thank Fluor for the successful execution of a well managed safety program,” said Mike Peirsol, REC’s project director for Silicon IV.
“The successful completion of REC’s Moses Lake processing plant reconfirms Fluor’s global leadership in the design and construction of polysilicon and silane gas processing plants,” said Peter Oosterveer, president of Fluor’s Energy & Chemicals Group. “The 6 million safe work hours accomplishment is indicative not only of Fluor’s world-class safety program, but of our project management excellence for REC and other global clients.”
“The success of the Moses Lake expansion is a direct result of the partnership of Fluor and REC and our joint commitment to excellence in execution,” said Ivor Harrington, Fluor’s senior vice president and Chemicals business line lead. “The safety milestone realized by our construction team using Fluor’s recognized safety program is a significant achievement, especially considering we used more than 25 general contractors and subcontractors working together to complete this processing plant.”
REC is one of the most integrated companies across the solar value chain. Fluor is also in the process of completing construction for REC’s new integrated solar manufacturing complex in Singapore.
