Bayer Complete Expansion of Rubber Plant

Following an investment of 20 million Euros, the expansion of Bayer’s rubber production plant at La Wantzenau in France has been completed. The project was approved back in 1999.

The work on the plant involved modernisation and expansion. The plant produces rubber emulsions such as NBR and acrylonitrile-butadiene rubbers and benefited from a capacity increase from 120,000 to 185,000 metric tons per year. The increased capacity has also allowed Bayer to move production of these grades to France from their plant in Leverkusen.

The transfer of production capacity from Leverkusen was completed in mid July and will make the operation more cost competitive in the long term.

As a result of the capacity transfer, 85 employees will be affected. All will be offered alternative employment, with Bayer having no intention of having to make any of them redundant.
