One of the world’s largest specialty metals producers, Allegheny Technologies has entered into a long-term deal with Rolls-Royce, a manufacturer of jet engines, to deliver ATI 718Plus alloy. The agreement period is from 2011 to 2024 and includes the supply of ATI 718Plus alloy products to Rolls-Royce and its suppliers.
The ATI 718Plus is a nickel-based superalloy that is used to manufacture various jet engine parts. Rolls-Royce has been looking for high-quality triple melted material for rotating applications and the company finally chose ATI’s innovative superalloy.
Currently, the ATI 718Plus alloy is employed in numerous rotating and static jet engines. This alloy considerably decreases the total production cost and enhances the productivity of customers. It also has the potential to increase the fuel efficiency of engines.
The first application of the nickel-based superalloy took place in 2010 and is now used in various jet engine components. ATI continues to work with Rolls-Royce to extend the ATI 718Plus alloy application into next-generation jet engines.
