Avery Dennison's Fasson Label Constructions get Approval from APR

Three new Fasson label constructions from Avery Dennison Label and Packaging Materials have received approval from the Association of Post-consumer Plastic Recyclers (APR), which focuses on the recycling of the -+PET thermoformed containers.

The three constructions namely 54# Semi-Gloss paper with AT-1 adhesive, 2.0 Mil Clear BOP film with S2001 adhesive and 2.6 Mil White BOPP film with S490 adhesive are additions to the already existing Fasson Direct-Thermal 200HD paper with S490 adhesive, which has also been approved. These constructions provide a wide range of labelling solutions to retailers and leading brands based in Canada.

Of the three constructions, the 54# Semi-Gloss paper with AT-1 adhesive combines an adhesive that can withstand all temperatures with a semi-gloss paper. This feature enables retailers to use the material for label designing using hi-tech graphics particularly for products that need to be stored at temperatures ranging from -65°F to +250°F. Apart from this property, the AT-1 is also highly tolerant to the recycling process as it reduces the possibilities of polluting the caustic solution in a recycler. The Grocer Coalition of Canada recently laid down conditions to suppliers that they move to the PET clamshell thermoformed packaging. These conditions along with the new protocols will become compulsory from Jan 1 2012. The new protocol from APR aims to enhance the efficiency of materials for the purpose of recycling and identify factors such as sensitive laminates before they are recycled.
