Ceramic Fuel Cells Limited has announced that its fuel cell powered micro-CHP unit has been certified by the Victorian Office of Gas Safety under Australian Standards. This week the Victorian Minister John Thwaites will formally Launch the unit which will be shipped to New Zealand. CFCL’s new CEO, Brendan Dow, also starts with the Company today.
Meeting the Australian Standards for Industrial and commercial gas-fired appliances (AS 3814 – 2002, AG 501 – 2002) is a significant milestone for CFCL.
“It is a critical point in our business path to commercialise our fuel cell solutions for energy needs” said Mr Brendan Dow, CEO, CFCL. Mr Dow comes to CFCL from German manufacturer Ziehl-ebm, with extensive senior level experience in the manufacturing and energy industries as well as international business development.
By law, the Office of Gas Safety must ‘accept the safe design of a gas appliance before it can be legally supplied, sold or installed in Victoria’.
CFCL has received approval for its innovative fuel cell energy system, balance of plant and integrated micro-CHP appliance prototype, all of which were designed and built at the factory and office in Noble Park, Victoria.
“This is a milestone week for CFCL” said Brendan Dow. “On Wednesday we will celebrate the company’s achievements with a formal Launch of Australia’s first fuel cell powered generator, and Australia’s first fuel cell powered micro-CHP. We are honoured to have the Victorian Minister for Environment, the Hon John Thwaites, officially launch the unit that we will be sending to Powerco.”
CFCL’s fuel cell generator is incorporated within the micro-CHP (small combined heat and power) unit. This unit is designed to produce 1kW electricity and heat for hot water for a typical home using natural gas as fuel.
CFCL’s first micro-CHP prototype will be shipped to New Zealand later this week for field trial testing for 12 months.
