New Report Presents Global Shipments of Advanced Batteries by Application Segment

Reportlinker.com announces that a new market research report is available in its catalogue: Advanced Battery Tracker 4Q13

The advanced battery market is in the midst of a massive increase in production output, thanks to growth in the core consumer electronics segment, as well as the emergence of new markets for batteries in electric vehicles (EVs) and stationary storage systems. Advanced batteries are defined as rechargeable batteries with a chemistry that has entered into the market as a mass-produced product in the last 2 decades. For purposes of analyzing the market as of the end of 2012, Navigant Research identified a total global shipment volume of 26.7 GWh of advanced batteries, the majority of which were in the consumer electronics segment. However, emerging sectors such as automotive and stationary energy storage earned relatively large market shares, as well.

Lithium ion (Li-ion) is the primary chemistry in the advanced battery market. Li-ion batteries offer the best compromise between energy density, cycle life, cost, and safety. Cost of the batteries, the most important factor, has been declining dramatically in the last 2 years. When measured by cell shipments, more than 99% of advanced batteries consisted of Li-ion chemistries in 2012. Navigant Research identified another clear winner in the advanced batteries race: China. The majority of advanced batteries were manufactured in China, with the United States, South Korea, and Japan coming in well behind that country. Notably, there was very little manufacturing activity in Europe, Latin America, and the Middle East & Africa in 2012.

This Navigant Research report identifies developments and trends in the advanced battery market by tracking the shipments of batteries around the world for 2012. The Tracker focuses on new market activity and market share analysis for all major application segments that utilize advanced batteries, including automotive, consumer electronics, defense, medical, power tools, and stationary storage. Comprehensive documentation is provided for storage capacity (MWh), power capacity (MW), cells shipped, and revenue for advanced batteries across all global regions and across all technologies.
