Corning to Close Californian Facility

As part of its efforts to restore profitability, Corning have decided to discontinue commercialization of their wavelength switch and wavelength blocker product lines.

As a direct consequence of this decision, they will also be closing their Fountain Valley facility in California, USA. The closure is expected to be completed by mid 2003 and Corning are working with customers to fulfill their obligations.

While Corning pioneered the development of these products, they overestimated the size of the potential market and the time required for it to mature. These reasons significantly contributed to the decision.
